Malta and Cats
Cats are a common sight in Malta, a small island country located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is estimated that there are more than 200,000 stray cats on the island, which is home to a population of around 500,000 people.
The cats in Malta are often seen wandering the streets, lounging in the sun, and seeking out food from locals and tourists. Many Maltese people have a soft spot for cats, and it is not uncommon to see bowls of water and food left out for them.
There are also several cat sanctuaries and rescue organizations in Malta that work to provide medical care, food, and shelter for stray cats. Some of these organizations also run spay and neuter programs to help control the cat population.
Despite the high number of stray cats in Malta, the government has been criticized for not doing enough to address the issue. There have been calls for more funding to be allocated to cat rescue organizations and for stricter laws around the treatment of animals.
