The National #LiteracyAgency, in collaboration with the Malta Football Association – 1900, organised a football event at the National Football Stadium in Ta’ Qali to celebrate the end of the fourth cycle of the Footballers’ Read & Write Programme.
Students from Vittoriosa, Safi, Birkirkara, Qormi St Sebastian, Marsa, San Gwann, Kalkara, Xewkija and Zejtun primary schools participated in this celebration.
The Footballers’ Read & Write Programme is a programme that combines reading and football to motivate reluctant readers to read more through football.
At the Ta’ Qali celebration event, the pupils were given the opportunity to tour the National Stadium premises. The tour included the interview area, the changing room, the players’ tunnel and the football ground. Students also had the opportunity to ask some questions to the national goalkeeper, Andrew Hogg.
A football tournament was later held for all the participants in the Centenary Stadium. At the end, the children were presented with a ball, a reading book and a certificate of participation.
